Our Story

From a young age I have always enjoyed creating, for gifts or for my homes. My attention to detail and willingness to complete my work to the highest quality standard was recognised whilst I was still in VCE being awarded the ‘State Honour Roll,’ the highest awarded grade for ‘Cabinetry and Furniture Making’.

In the years to follow high school, I completed my Carpentry apprenticeship (Cert 3) with a leading  building company, servicing inner city Melbourne, the Bayside area and holiday homes across Victoria. This experience exposed me to a variety of styles and methods that advanced my building skills.

Along the way, I have always shared my knowledge with others. My building company, Holcon Homes was established in 2011 when I completed my building and construction (Cert 4) and earnt my Registered Building Practitioner License, in addition to Master Builders recognition. Prior to establishing Holcon Homes, I managed a successful carpentry service with a small team. To this day, I have supported VCAL students and 8 apprentices into successful carpenters, many now running their own businesses.

Working well with others makes my work more enjoyable. I have a skill teaching the art of building, which includes a flexible, calm natured approach and patience (thanks to my children mostly for this!!). This helps for collaborating with all the clients, trades and other building professionals.

After the experience of living in renovations of my two previous homes, in 2018 I set my sights on my biggest achievement yet – building from scratch our family dream home in Mount Dandenong.

The home meets our hopes of an Architectural build with environmental roots in all decisions made. I spent a long time researching and upskilling in understanding green build alternatives.

The house is in a bushfire zoned area built to standard BAL 40 rating and included sustainable choices such as tank water to amenities, worm-farm septic, recycled products or locally sourced, solar passive design, double glazed windows, solar energy system and natural sources of heating, insulation and carpet.

I refined my skills in alternative trades whilst meeting our budgetary constraints. I had a dream of building my family home from the ground up. Apart from where certified trades are required of course!!!

This allowed me to fully appreciate the works of colleagues’ day to day and helps me to forward think and troubleshoot now with other builds.

One of our unique features has been the superb Blackwood timber, sourced and milled on the block and featured within the house.  There are many elements of eco-build that we were able to incorporate into our home, this has given me insight and appreciation of what can be achieved with like-minded clients.
